Planning, Cast, Props, Location and Shots

In order for my music video run smoothly I need to devise a plan in order to take into account the time I have left, when my cast is available, weather on the day of filming, the atmosphere of location, use of props and leave plenty of time to edit my film as this takes the longest.

Planning - I wills shoot my film across two days(Saturday and Sunday) this is because my cast members will be available on the weekend and also the location will be buzzing with people at this time which i need for my film. The reason i need to days is so that all the couple work i will do Saturday and any shots of scenery which doesn't involve the cast i will shoot in my own time then so i am not rushed or wasting any ones time. I have looked at the weather forecast briefly to check that it will be sunny which is what i need in particular as some of my shots involve beams of sunlight. I should hopefully have all the footage i need across these two days to edit and produce a detailed video.

Cast - My video is based around two people (a couple) who i have selected carefully for different reasons. My first reason being is that they are not camera shy and have basic acting skills from drama classes at school to make the narrative realistic and believable for the audience. Secondly, they are an actual couple, so the chemistry and emotions that are portrayed on film are natural and not faked or forced. Thirdly, they live in the area i am filming in, so i can rely on them to be on time for the filming schedule. Lastly, and i leave it till last because it's not important that they are an attractive couple but it will have an impact on my video as the audience may be attracted to the actors and be engaged with my music video more. They are also the correct age for the concept of my story (college leavers 17 - 18) which emphasises the reality of the narrative.

Olivia Robinson - 17 years of age - playing the girlfriend

Tom Denham -18 years of age - playing the boyfriend

Props

I will be using a range of costumes(everyday clothing) so that the couple appears very natural and comfortable around each other and also a change of clothing for different scenes so that it shows change in time throughout the memory montage clips.

I will be using a picnic blanket, and buying ice creams for the picnic scene in the park. I also be sing toms car in driving scenes to the train station. A heart necklace in a gift box in the scene their relationship moves to the next level of commitment. A trampoline for the garden scene together. Magazine for them to read and blanket to snuggle up in. Also two university letters - one for Westminster for Olivia and one for Leeds university for Tom. Lastly I will be using a suitcase on the final scene when Liv leaves on the train for uni which will be authentic as she takes her belongings with her.

Location - I will keep the locations very local for the couple to show how comfortable they are in their home town, which emphasises everything she is leaving behind. I have set my video In Beverley where the couple live as they are familiar with town and it would be very natural for them to act scenes within their local town. The main scene is the train station which of course is Beverley train station where i will film trains leaving and arriving, the station itself for establishing shots, the clock to create immediacy for the audience, and shots of the couple waiting and hugging on the platform. It will be very difficult to film Liv actually on the train looking out, so i will signify her leaving through a shot of their hands losing touch on the platform. As i travel on the train to meet them i will use shots by myself from outside the window to create point of view what Liv sees as she leaves the station.

For the montage clips I will use pleasant locations such as parks, gardens and homes to emphasise her happiness and memories with Tom. These soft, tranquil locations will contrast with the harshness of brick walls in the train station and the bland colours of the tracks and trains. This also connotes a change of feelings for the couple from happiness in the pleasant locations and emptiness in the restricted walls of the station.
Beverley Train Station -

A list of shots I will use:

Establishing shots - of train station and town of Beverley - to state the location
Panning shots - of the trains to follow movement
Arc shots - panning around the subject - Liv and Tom
Medium shots - of the couple walking together -action shots
Long shots - of the couple walking away from the camera
Close ups - of the couples faces to show emotion of one another and holding hands
Handheld shots - to create point of view of the actors/rush of train station
Over the shoulder shot - to read university letters/see one an others emotions
Low angles - to show the couples strength to try and stick together, trampoline shots - when they were in control of their lives
High angles - of the train and the tracks that pan upwards
Zoom lens - to capture a close up gradually but from a distance
Two shots - to show both the couple experiencing the same feelings

Health and Safety
As I will be shooting in various different locations that are unpredictable and live, I need to take into consideration the health and safety of myself, the cast and the public around me. The scenes shot within the house will have very limited danger but I will consider more carefully the shots outside. I will make sure my camera is fully charged in advance to eliminate any wires that could lead to accidents. For the trampoline shots i will set my camera quite a distance away to protect myself and also notify my cast not jump to high or push each other to avoid any potential accidents. As there is only two people on the trampoline too, this will limit the dangers and comply with the 'two persons maximum' rule. For the scenes shot within the train station, i will note to the public around me of what i am doing so that they are aware of m equipment and the situation. I will also ensure that my cast is not put in any danger by not standing too closely to the platform, on the tracks etc. Lastly, i will be shooting scenes within a car where one of my cast will be driving where i will make sure not to in any way encourage them to drive recklessly or distract their concentration to keep other road users, the public and each other safe.
